ABOUT SARA ORTUZAR
Born in Bilbao, in 1997 I began my studies in Fine Arts at the University of Leioa, specializing in sculpture.
My interest in the body, sculpture, and objects led me to explore Contemporary Artistic Jewelry. In 2009, I started training in Classical Jewelry under the guidance of the goldsmith Eduardo Pérez, whom I apprenticed with at his workshop in Plentzia, and from whom I continue to learn to this day.
Over the years, I have undertaken various courses to acquire knowledge and skills in the handling of sculptural materials that have piqued my interest. These include epoxy resin, mold fabrication, 3D printing, enamel firing on copper, flocking, electrolytic galvanizing, and more.
Currently, I continue my research in my studio to capture, through manual techniques and 3D technology, ideas and sensations inspired by events in nature and how humans see their own complexity reflected in these mysteries full of beauty.
For me, it is a fascinating challenge to achieve, in each piece, through form, color, and texture, a certain mystery that invites reflection and contemplation.
In the manufacturing process, I give great importance to the selection of materials that make up the pieces, always seeking standards such as sustainability to minimize waste during production and bio-compatibility, using materials that are free from any harmful substances to health.
Recently I have participated by exhibiting my work at the Mad Abut Jewelry event, held annually at the MAD Museum of Art and Design, in New York.
